Judy Gallagher currently serves as Merrimac Farm Chapter's Co-President along with Kathy Madsen. She has also been volunteering with the Northern Virginia Audubon Society's Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge & Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area Natural Resources Survey Project.
Judy has conducted surveys of birds, flowering plants, butterflies and dragonflies at the refuge, recreation area and Julie Metz Wetlands to support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, Fairfax County and Prince William County. Survey data collected is used to manage natural resources in these important public lands.
Judy is a skilled photographer, which has enabled her to shared
detailed photos of hundreds of species she has observed via the citizen science platform, iNaturalist.org, and in chapter classes on entomology.
Judy participated in the 2017 City Nature Challenge. The challenge was a five day event in the DC metro area to map the biota of the area. Judy shares that one of her favorite species found during the five days was a tiny Bee Fly.
